I did my usual shopping at the local market this afternoon, and I decided to make my own Starbucks coffee at home. We were going to make some homemade ice cream, and I just had a taste for a really good, hot cup of java.

I swung my cart to the aisle that had coffees, teas, creamers, juices, spices, sugar, Splenda and a vast assortment of baked goods. This was a good day to shop. Most people must have cleaned the store out the day before since I had to get a manager to bring me a bag of onions from the back. Oh yes...back to the coffee.

I chose one of my favorite Starbuck's coffees, "Caffe Verona Bold". Out of the corner of my eye, I spied an amber bottle. This reminded me of Starbucks when I asked for a shot of hazelnut in my coffee, so I took a look. Sure enough, This was called "DaVinci Courmet Hazelnut Syrup". I chose it and placed it in my cart. At home, I made a pot of coffee and put some of this in my cup. Pretty good! This was a superb addition to my coffee.

I was reading the bottle in my kitchen and saw the words COFFEE KIDS. I was intrigued, so I read on. Coffee Kids is a non-profit organization that was designed to improve families and children of families who live in coffee growing countries around the world.

I went to DaVinci Gourmet's website, and found out they are Coffee Kids' largest sponsor. They also have approximately 67 different flavored syrups that can be ordered on-line. Hey! I can get Coconut Classic or Caramel Pecan and have it delivered to my door? Count me in!

Coffee lovers everywhere... You can have a great cup of coffee and also help the coffee-farming families and children.

This money is used for community improvements, low-interest loans, scholarships, and micro-enterprise. Through this project women and their families have generated additional income for their homes, gained personal confidence and have learned about diversification and investment strategies to better face the dependency on the coffee harvest.

Enjoy your coffee! The antioxidants are good for you, but that is for another article...I'm off to get another bowl of ice cream and get a cup of Caffe' Verona with Davinci's Gourmet Hazelnut Syrup .

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I loved the coffee, but also am happy to be able to help coffee-farmers. This interested me, so I found another sponsor .

You really shouldn't do that AlexG.

It's very disrespectful to the author to come into her column and advertise yours. If people are interested in your topics, they will read your articles.

          Of course.

Turkish, mostly, but sometimes plain old America brewed coffee.

How many sponsors does Coffee Kids have at this time?

I will check out the pics. Thanks!
